A few more pointers for prospective photo buyers
Do you send out Transparencies?
We decided from the outset that we would be an “all digital”
site. That means that we do not send out, or store, the original
transparencies or negatives of images.
Our images are either high quality film scans, or files from digital
capture.
Is digital up to the job?
In our opinion – absolutely!
Images captured digitally, using professional equipment, have no
film grain, and little noise. They can usually be interpolated to
a larger file size more easily, and with greater success, than a
film scan of equivalent size.
Keeping only digital files helps us keep down costs – savings
we can pass on to our customers.
Is it a free for all?
Unlike some sites, we do not accept anything and everything we
are sent.
While our contributing photographers have a high degree of discretion
on material submitted, we do first check out the work of new photographers
to ensure their work meets our standards.
What formats do you use?
You have the option of requesting images in either Tiff or Jpeg
format.
Tiff files are uncompressed. Jpeg files are compressed to “high”
quality ( 9 on the Photoshop scale).
An Adobe (1998) ICC/ICM profile is embedded in every RGB file.
The web miniatures are highly compressed jpegs, with the sRGB profile
embedded, as this displays better on non-ICC compliant browsers,
used by many viewers (but is of smaller gamut, so less good for
publication).
